TALENTS CHALLENGE LAUNCHED ON APRIL 30
Forty Two Projects Registered

Mercy Prayer Center launched its Parable of the Talents Challenge on April 30 at St. Anne's Parish Hall in Rochester. A total of forty four talent projects were registered. The keynote speaker was Sr. Barbara Moore, RSM who spoke on the relevance of the scripture passage of the parable of the lalents and how we are called to serve others. A number of "Rabbit Projects" were highlighted including Diane Ferrucci who spoke on her project of giving individual personal fitness sessions. She also displayed educational tools and props that she uses in her classes. Also displaying were Sr. Jackie Reichart RSM (homemade gourmet fudge sauce) and Ann Maloney (ceramic peace tea lights). Sr. Jody Kearney RSM, program director at Mercy Prayer Center completed her project of Easter greeting cards and has scheduled a second project, which is an in-home concert with Phyllis Contestable and Alan Jones. The concert, scheduled for Friday, May 15, is entitled "Broadway and More on Rand Place" and will feature a mix of show tunes and popular classics. Dessert will follow the performance. Total Reported To-date: $7,755

Of our 41 projects currently underway, 18 have reported in with final or partial resuts totaling $7,775, which is and average of $430per project. What a fantastic beginning for our Parable of the Talents Challenge. With this track record, we are sure to make our first-year goal of $13,000.

There are many wonderful stories of projects Building Community and Raising Awareness for the Prayer Center as well as raising much needed funds to support our ministry.

Sr. Therese Richardson and Giovina Caroscio teamed up to host our very first Talent Project event - a group of friends at the Prayer Center on March 20, aptly named "Tea with T and G". Eleven people attended and another twelve couldn't attend but sent in donations. They raised $900. Therese and Giovina have earned the distinction of being for first to host an event.

Sister Jody's Easter Cards

Sr. Jody Kearney, Program Director at Mercy Prayer Center, used the Easter season to get a head start on her projects. She made and sold Easter Greeting Cards and raised a total of $228. But Sister Jody isn't stopping there -- she has decided to do a second project.

Sr. Jody Kearney hosted an in-home Concert with local singing legend Phyllis Contestable. Sr. Nancy O'Brien baked the pies and cakes for dessert. It will be called "Broadway and More on Rand Place." A total of $1,250 was raised for Mercy Prayer Center.

Dalzells Hearing Centers Make $5,000 Sponsorship Grant

Dalzells Hearing Centers, Sheila and Larry Dalzell have contributed $5,000 to sponsor Mercy Prayer Center's First Annual Parable of the Talents Challenge. Their gift is what allows us to make the $50 Talent Grants to our Talent Volunteers. THANK YOU Dalzells Hearing Centers

  • Cathy and Andy Zona and Goldie Rogers hosted a Lasagna Dinner for 21 people and raised $693

  • Sr. Anne Cullen made and sold "Annies Hot Mustard" and Handmade Kitchen Towels and raised $407

  • Chris and Bob McGraw is making her famous Spiced Pecans and selling them to friends and family and has raised $335 so far.

  • Sr. Fran Wegman has been giving haircuts to anyone she can corral and has raised $650.

  • Ann Maloney sold hand-crafted ceramic "Peace Tealights" and raised $97 to date.

  • Bonnie Matthaidess held a "Swap Party" where 20 people cane and exchanged fashion accessories and raised $500.

  • Sr. Jackie Reichart made and sold gourmet fudge sauce and raised over $400
